Daylon Swearingen Wins Canadian Monster Energy Tour’s London Classic for Third PBR Event Victory of 2019

LONDON, Ontario – In front of an electric crowd at Budweiser Gardens in London, Ontario, Daylon Swearingen (Piffard, New York) captured his third event win of the 2019 season, victorious at PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada Monster Energy Tour’s London Classic.

The 19-year-old’s win was highlighted by the top-scored ride in Round 1, bringing the raucous crowd to its feet when he made the 8 aboard Black Sails (Triple R Bull Co.) for 84.5 points.

Swearingen’s win at the PBR’s first event in London since 2016 was his third victory in the league thus far this year. After winning the Touring Pro Division event in Belton, Texas in mid-march, the young gun captured his first title on the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour in April at the Wichita Classic in Kansas.

For his efforts, the New York cowboy collected $6,337.18, 450 Canadian and 170 world points.

While his win on the Velocity Tour in Kansas propelled him to his Unleash The Beast debut in Columbus, Ohio, where he finished thirteenth, Swearingen is now solidly ranked inside the Top 35. After beginning the event No. 36 in the world, Swearingen is now No. 27, 161.67 points in front of the premier series’ cutline.

In the Canadian standings, Swearingen rose from No. 19 to No. 4, now within 357.08 points of No. 1 Jared Parsonage (Maple Creek, Saskatchewan).

Finishing second, Shay Marks hones in on No. 1 ranking in Canada, rising from No. 4 to No. 3 in the national standings

Shay Marks (Sunnybrook, Alberta) finished second to net $4,733.23, 200 Canadian and 90 world points.

Much like Swearingen, Marks’ finish was backed by an 8-second effort in Round 1, taking Applause (Vold Rodeo) to the whistle for 83.5 points.

The top contender in the PBR Canada Championship title race riding at the London Classic, Marks honed in on the top ranking. Entering the stop No. 4, he is now the No. 3-ranked rider in Canada, just 200 points behind No. 1 Parsonage.

In the world rankings, Marks also gained ground. As the No. 67-ranked rider in the world at event’s start, Marks is now No. 49, 282.5 points outside of the Top 35.

Competing at just the second Canadian event of his career, Marcus Mast (Middlebury, Indiana) was third.

He rode Blackberry Smoke (Triple R Bull Co.) for 83 points in Round 1 to propel him to a $3,129.28 pay day. Mast also netted 150 Canadian and 55 world points for his trip to the Great White North.

Luis Blanco (Iacanga, Brazil) was fourth, earning $2,185.78 along with 100 Canadian and 20 world points.

His qualified ride aboard Josiah’s Fire (R Saga Ranch Ltd) for 82.5 points in Round 1 earned him his tenth Top-10 finish of the season.

Now ranked No. 28 in Canada, Blanco gained ground in the world title race, climbing from No. 61 to No. 56.

Rounding out the Top 5 was Carlos Garcia (Abingdon, Virginia) who rode Act Naturally (Thompson Rodeo Livestock) for 82 points. He leaves Budweiser Gardens with a check for $1,374.37 along with 75 Canadian and 15 world points.

Twist of Barbwire (Thompson Rodeo Livestock) was named the high-marked bull of the event courtesy of his 43.5-point bull score earned when the bovine athlete bucked off Blanco in the championship round in 3.64 seconds.

Fans can relive all the action from the 2019 PBR Canada Monster Energy Tour’s London Classic Sunday, May 12th at 8:00 a.m. EDT on RidePass.com or via the mobile app. The event will also be broadcast on TSN2 on Tuesday, July 9 at 7:30 p.m. EDT.

PBR Canada’s Monster Energy Tour will next travel to Moncton, New Brunswick, and the Avenir Centre for the Moncton Classic, presented by GO! Store. The event will be the third of the four-stop slate of events in the Eastern provinces and will get underway on Saturday, May 25 at 7:00 p.m. ADT.

  • Teel Wins Round 4 of the 2018 PBR World Finals with Second Consecutive 90-Point Ride

Teel Wins Round 4 of the 2018 PBR World Finals with Second Consecutive 90-Point Ride

World No. 1 Pacheco and No. 2 Leme buck off, setting up intense World Finals Championship Sunday with Teel also Eligible for the World Title

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Bringing the electric crowd inside T-Mobile Arena to its feet, Cody Teel (Kountze, Texas) recorded his second consecutive 90-point ride at the 25th PBR: Unleash The Beast World Finals to win Round 4 and rise to No. 4 in the world.

The 26-year-old’s gritty 90.25-point score came aboard Medicine Man (TNT Bucking Bulls/Hart Cattle Co.), earning him $35,000 and 300 world points. The magnetic ride, marking the fourth 90-point effort of Teel’s PBR (Professional Bull Riders) career, came on the heels of his third round 90-point ride on Brahma Boots Chrome (Outlaw Buckers Rodeo Corp.) where he finished in third place.

Click here to watch Teel’s ride, and here for an image.

“He’s a really good bull, hairy in the chute,” Teel said. “If you get out clean, you can get a chance to win.”

Teel is now ninth in the overall event aggregate, 2-for-4 thus far in Las Vegas.  He joins Pacheco and Leme as the three riders with a shot at the PBR World Championship.

Heading into Championship Sunday, Teel trails No.1 Kaique Pacheco (Itatiba, Brazil) by 2,072.5 points, as a rider capable of winning 2,100 points should he sweep both Round 5 and the championship round, and claim the 2018 PBR World Finals event title.

Pacheco will face M.A.G.A. (TNT Bucking Bulls/Hart Cattle Co.) in Round 5, the second round of the event with a rider-drafted draw.

Teel’s resurgence in the third and fourth rounds of the most prestigious event in bull riding have further intensified the World Championship race, after both No. 1 Pacheco and No. 2 Jose Vitor Leme (Ribas do Rio Pardo, Brazil) bucked off in Round 4.

Finning Milky Chance (Flying Four Bucking Bulls) bested Pacheco in 3.81 seconds marking the second night in a row the 2015 PBR Rookie of the Year was unable to reach the 8-second mark.

South Texas Gangster (Dakota Rodeo/Julie Rosen/Clay Struve/Chad Berger) became the first bovine athlete to buck off Leme inside T-Mobile Arena, ending his nine-out ride streak at the PBR World Finals.

With one day of action remaining in the 2018 season, the Brazilian stars are only 1,262.5 points apart. They will attempt Solid Iron’s Hammer Down (PK Triplett Bucking Bulls) and Frequent Flyer (D&H Cattle/Erwin Cattle), respectively, in the fifth round.

In the event aggregate, Leme is third, while Pacheco has fallen outside the Top 10.

World No. 3 Claudio Montanha Jr. (Pacaembu, Brazil) made the 8 for the first time at the 2018 World Finals Saturday night, finishing third in Round 4 to earn $15,000 and 125 world points.

With an 89-point trip on Lil 2 Train (Braindead Cattle Company/Hilton Bull Co.), Montanha Jr. narrowed the gap on the No. 1 ranking. He is now 2,005.83 points behind Pacheco. His Round 5 out will come aboard Stuntman Ray (Broken Arrow Bucking Bulls).

Two riders remain flawless at the 2018 PBR World Finals. Marco Eguchi (Poá, Brazil), the overall event leader in the aggregate, improved to 4-for-4 after riding Big Benny (Curtis Mendell) for 86.25 points, while Chase Outlaw’s (Hamburg, Arkansas) historic comeback continued when he covered Anthrax (EVP Bucking Bulls) for 86 points.

Click here to see Eguchi’s ride, and here for Outlaw’s.

They will look to record their fifth rides Sunday afternoon, with Eguchi facing Lightning Before Thunder (Jenkins Cattle Co./Emerson Cattle) and Outlaw, currently second in the event aggregate, attempting Hangman (Owens/Wyatt/Smith).

Reigning World Champion Jess Lockwood (Volborg, Montana) finished second in Round 4, riding Uptown Funk (4G Ranch / Long) for 89.25 points, improving his overall record to 3-for-4 in Sin City. He is now sixth in the World Finals event aggregate.

Click here to watch Lockwood’s ride.

Collecting $20,000 and 180 world points, Lockwood cracked into the Top 10 in the world standings after beginning the round No. 11.

Cooper Davis (Buna, Texas) continued his momentum from Friday, where he tied for fourth in Round 3, covering Wired Child (01 Cattle Co.) for 88.25 points to record yet another fourth place round finish.

Courtesy of the 8-seconds of work, the 2016 PBR World Champion netted $10,000 and 95 world points.

Tied for fifth was, Round 1 winner Matt Triplett (Volborg, Montana) and Lachlan Richardson (Gresford, New South Wales, Australia), each earning $4,500 and 62.5 world points for their matching 88-point rides.

Triplett’s qualified ride came aboard re-ride bull Big Black Cat (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Heald Pro Bulls), while Richardson’s was atop Night Sweats (Plummer/Hart Cattle Co.).

While Triplett remains No. 14 in the world, Australia’s Richardson rose from No. 27 to No. 24.

Saturday night also concluded the ABBI World Finals Classic Event where more than $500,000 was paid out.

Hocus Pocus (D&H Cattle Co./Almand/Barthold) was crowned both the 2018 ABBI Classic Champion and 2018 ABBI World Finals Classic Event Champion. Courtesy of his two titles, earned via his 90.4-point score in Round 1 and 94.2-point trip in Round 4, the bovine athlete earned $200,000.

Prayer Warrior (Halpain/Roth) was crowned the 2018 ABBI World Finals Event Reserve Champion with 178 points in the average, collecting $50,000. The King (Halpain/Roth) was third with 176 points for a $35,000 payday.

  • 9-TIME PBR WORLD FINALS QUALIFIER TONY MENDES TO MAKE COMEBACK IN HONOR OF HUNTER NORMAN AT MEMORIAL EVENT

9-TIME PBR WORLD FINALS QUALIFIER TONY MENDES TO MAKE COMEBACK IN HONOR OF HUNTER NORMAN AT MEMORIAL EVENT

GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado (June 5th, 2018) – 9-time PBR World Finals qualifier Tony Mendes will make his return to bull riding to honor the memory and spirit of fellow cowboy Hunter Norman when he competes at the 1st Annual Hunter Norman Memorial Bulls & Ranch Broncs event this month. The event pays tribute and honors respected Western Slope ranch bronc rider, Hunter Norman who passed away unexpectedly in May. The memorial event takes place on Saturday, June 23rd, 2018 at 7pm at the Mesa County Fairgrounds in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Based in Fruita, Colorado, 40-year old Tony Mendes has an impressive bull riding career spanning 38 years.  The 1996 Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) Rookie of the Year, Mendes won the North American Rodeo Commission in 1995 and has qualified twice for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Mendes has not been riding bulls competitively in the last two years due to a shoulder injury. When Mendes learned of the memorial event that friends and family are organizing to celebrate the life of his friend, he knew this was something he needed to be a part of to honor the ranch bronc rider.

“I decided to make a comeback at this memorial event to represent what Hunter represented. Hunter was someone who was all about heart and the try,” said Mendes of his friendship with the fallen cowboy. “He always came around and showed up with a new kid who was ready to learn how to ride. He always wanted to help and kept doing whatever he could to make the sport grow. It was this spirit about being alive that made Hunter a true cowboy. He had heart and was all about the trying – and so for Hunter, I’m going to try.”

Organizers of the memorial include family and long-time friends of the Fruita Monument High School Class of 2016 graduate Hunter Norman. This annual memorial helps the community celebrate the young cowboy’s life through his love and passion for ranch bronc riding and by putting on the best bronc and bull riding event that has come to the area. Event organizer and two-time Colorado Bullfighter of the Year (2007, 2013), Tyler Williams and his wife, Crystal have been engrained in the Western Slope community their whole lives and aim to put on an unforgettable annual event this year and for many years to come.

Cooper Davis becomes 16th different PBR World Champion in thrilling World Finals in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS – It took five days and six rounds after a tight, weeklong battle that went down to the final round, and Cooper Davis (Buna, Texas) emerged as the 2016 PBR (Professional Bull Riders) World Champion. Davis went 4-for-6 and won Round 5 of the Built Ford Tough World Finals with a 91-point ride on Catfish John (Dakota Rodeo-Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Miller) Sunday afternoon at T-Mobile Arena, propelling him past former world No.1 Kaique Pacheco and 2015 World Champion J.B. Mauney.

It was Davis’ first 90-point ride at a Word Finals, capping the closest championship points battle in PBR history.

Davis, a 22-year-old father, becomes the 16th different rider to claim the coveted PBR World Champion gold buckle, along with the $1 million bonus, and the first to be crowned at T-Mobile Arena, the new home of the PBR World Finals. Davis also finished third in the World Finals event, which he won last year.

Ryan Dirteater (Hulbert, Oklahoma) won the 2016 World Finals event title after a perfect 6-for-6 week, capped by an 89.75-point trip aboard Brutus to close out a week of intense bull riding in front of the largest PBR World Finals crowd. Dirteater was the only rider to cover all six bulls he faced over the week. He earned $250,000 for the event win, pushing past $1 million in career earnings.

SweetPro’s Bruiser (D&H Cattle Co./Buck Cattle Co.) was named the 2016 World Champion Bull after a 46.25-point performance for his 7.15-second buck off of 2016 PBR Brazil Champion Dener Barbosa (Paulo de Faria, Brazil) in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round.

Chad Berger was named the 2016 Stock Contractor of the Year, the sixth time he earned top honors.

Jess Lockwood (Volborg, Montana) was named the 2016 Rookie of the Year. Lockwood did not record a ride at the World Finals but he finished the season eighth in the world standings and 885.83 points ahead of 37-year-old Wallace de Oliveira (Goiania, Brazil) in the Rookie of the Year standings.

2008 World Champion Guilherme Marchi (Itatinga, Brazil) finished second in the World Finals event after a 5-for-6 performance capped by an 87.5-point ride on Red Rover (Curtis Mendell) in the championship round. Marchi ended his season as the sixth-ranked bull rider in the world after closing 2016 on a 12-for-16 run that began back in San Jose, California.

2016 Canadian Champion Ty Pozzobon (Merritt, British Columbia) finished fourth in the World Finals event. Pozzobon, who went 4-for-6, led the event through most of the week before being bucked off by Margy Time (D&H Cattle Co.) and SweetPro’s Long John (D&H Cattle Co.) on Sunday. Pozzobon finished 23rd in the world standings.

2015 World Champion J.B. Mauney (Mooresville, North Carolina) rounded out the Top 5 after his 3-for-6 performance. Mauney was bucked off by Stone Sober (D&H Cattle Co./Buck Cattle Co.) in 4.42 seconds in the championship round and ended the season third in the world standings.

The Top 35 bull riders in the world will gather next in New York City’s Madison Square Garden, the most famous arena in the world, for the Monster Energy Buck Off at the Garden Jan. 6-8 to open the gate on the 2017 Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS).

About the PBR (Professional Bull Riders)

The world’s premier bull riding organization began as a dream of 20 bull riders 23 years ago and is now a global sports phenomenon. On its elite Built Ford Tough Series, the PBR features the Top 35 bull riders in the world and the top bulls in the business. The televised Built Ford Tough Series, the BlueDEF Tour, the Touring Pro Division and the PBR’s international circuits in Australia, Brazil, Canada and Mexico have paid more than $150 million in earnings to its athletes. Twenty-eight men have earned more than $1 million, including two-time PBR World Champion J.B. Mauney who, with his 2015 PBR World Championship, became bull riding’s first $6 million man and the richest athlete in Western sports history at $6.7 million in career earnings. In May 2015, PBR was acquired by WME | IMG, the global leader in entertainment, sports and fashion. For more information on the PBR, go to PBR.com, or follow on Facebook at Facebook.com/PBR, Twitter at Twitter.com/PBR, and YouTube at YouTube.com/PBR.

Pacheco becomes No. 1 in PBR world standings with Tailgate Entertainment’s Last Cowboy Standing win

LAS VEGAS – 2015 PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Rookie of the Year Kaique Pacheco took over the No. 1 spot in the PBR world standings after being crowned Tailgate Entertainment’s Last Cowboy Standing, part of Las Vegas Helldorado Days, presented by Monster Energy.

Last Cowboy Standing is part of the elite Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) and the third PBR Major of the season, which includes higher points than other regular-season PBR events and an increase in prize money.

Pacheco and Eduardo Aparecido were the only two bull riders to advance to fourth round of competition. While Aparecido was bucked off of 2012 PBR World Champion Bull Asteroid (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve) in 3.93 seconds, Pacheco sealed his victory with an 88-point effort on Little Red Jacket (J.A.R.S. Bucking Bulls/Gene Owen). Watch Pacheco’s winning ride here.

The reigning Rookie of the Year earned himself 920 points towards the world standings while taking home $115,500, which included a $100,000 payout, presented by Bad Boy Mowers.

Two-time reigning PBR World Champion J.B Mauney and Round 1 winner Robson Palermo tied for a second-place finish, both adding 125 points to their world standings totals.

Mauney also tied for the high-marked ride of the event with Pacheco, earning 89.75 points atop Moto Moto (J.A.R.S. Bucking Bulls/Gene Owen) to earn a Round 2 win. Pacheco posted 89.75 points on Wicked (J.A.R.S. Bucking Bulls/Gene Owen) to advance to Round 3. Here is Mauney’s high-marked ride. Here is Pacheco’s high-marked ride.

Gage Gay picked up 110 world standings points, finishing fourth overall, and was eliminated in Round 3 after bucking off Beaver Creek Beau (Chad Berger/Clay Struve/PBR Rock Bar) in 4 seconds.

Cooper Davis advanced to Round 3 before bucking off of Cochise (Jane Clark/Gene Owen) in 3.83 seconds, landing a fifth-place finish for 95 points towards the world standings.

Aparecido placed sixth, after covering the rarely-ridden Stanley FatMax (Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls) to advance him to what would be the final round of competition. FatMax has been covered just five times in 76 BFTS outs. Watch Aparecido become one of five riders to conquer the bovine here.

Rounding out the Top 7 was Jorge Valdiviezo who collected 75 world standings points with his 88.5-point ride on Buffalo Jump (Wentz Bucking Bulls) in Round 1.

18-year-old rookie sensation Jess Lockwood drew himself a chance to earn himself $50,000 if he covered Bad Boy Mowers Bonus Bull Air Time (Jared Allen’s Pro Bull Team) in Round 3. The World Champion Bull Contender made quick work of the young gun, tossing him in 2.66 seconds, so the $50,000 will carry over to the next PBR Major: the Nashville Invitational, presented by Cooper Tires. The Bad Boy Mowers Bonus will be $75,000 in Nashville.

Air Time earned the Salem Nationalease High-Marked Bull award at Last Cowboy Standing with a bull score of 47.5 points out of 50, click here to watch him go up against Lockwood.

CBS Television Network will broadcast all of the bull riding action from the final round of the Last Cowboy Standing on Sunday, May 15 at 4 p.m. ET.

Las Vegas is the 16th stop on the 2016 Built Ford Tough Series schedule. The BFTS will now enter its annual summer break before the top bull riders in the world return to action August 19-20 for the Nashville Invitational, the final PBR Major of the 2016 season, at Bridgestone Arena.

The BFTS is televised every week on CBS, CBS Sports Network – the home of the PBR – and networks around the world. Television ratings for PBR on CBS are up more than 33% this season compared to last year at the same time, according to Nielsen. BFTS telecasts are produced for the PBR under a multi-year agreement with David Neal Productions, a Los Angeles-based production company led by 34-time Emmy® Award winner and Peabody Award winner David Neal, who serves as executive producer.

    PBR China Series delayed

PUEBLO, Colo. – The Professional Bull Riders announced today that the debut of the PBR in China is being postponed. The much-anticipated series of events originally scheduled to run from August to October 2014 in Qingdao, Nanjing and Shanghai, China, will now be revisited in 2015.

“We always knew that there would be extensive complexities associated with this endeavor,” PBR Chairman and CEO Jim Haworth said. “In order to produce a series this year, we knew it would take virtually a miracle to navigate the many obstacles associated with the approval process and the events’ production. James [Wang] and his team’s hard work nearly delivered that miracle. Unfortunately, however, unforeseen circumstances have made us step back and honestly review our position. While we’re excited to bring the PBR to China, we want to ensure that we enter the Chinese market in a style that accurately represents the PBR and the sport of bull riding to the people of China.”

James Wang, the CEO of Xinniu International Sports Culture Company, which is based in Beijing, approached PBR Australia in 2013 about bringing the sport to China. In early 2014 a partnership was finalized and plans were fast-tracked for a late summer 2014 debut. Present circumstances and scheduling make it necessary to push the debut until at least the summer of 2015.

“When it happens, PBR’s arrival in China will be a historic moment,” Wang said.  “China will have the opportunity to experience the authentic cowboy culture, and observe firsthand the brave and resilient spirit of these hardworking athletes. We appreciate Jim Haworth and the entire PBR staff for their hard work and dedication while preparing for the upcoming tour and are looking forward to continuing our work together.”

More than 30 million households in China have watched highlights of the PBR’s elite Built Ford Tough Series on CCTV.

“While they won’t be the easiest events we’ve ever produced,” Haworth said, “when the series kicks off, it will probably be the most highly-anticipated.”
